Lubricants and oil analysis for industrial gearboxes

Speaker:
Dipl.-Ing. Rüdiger Krethe,
OilDoc GmbH, Germany

Language:

Summary:
Gearboxes are the core of modern driveline technologies. They carry high loads at best efficiency levels even though gear boxes are becoming compacter simultaneously. Today’s gear oils have to cope with these circumstances.

The workshop discusses the increased requirements of modern gear oils and shows their reflection by mechanic-dynamic test procedures, standards and specifications. In this way the attendees become able to compare different gear oils by the technical data sheets of the oil manufacturer and to select the adequate lubricant for their needs.
Moreover, best-practice recommendations for oil change procedures, remaining oil volumes by changing the lubricant type and problems caused by mixture of different oil types will be given.

Oil analyses are one of the heart techniques of condition monitoring. Periodical oil analyses can optimize oil drain intervals without any risk, and they provide very useful information about the wear situation and failure detection of gears in a very early stage. Oil analyses control the contamination level and show abnormal changes of lubricant conditions caused by problems in operation. Therefore, costs can be reduced by the optimization of the maintenance actions.

Based on the long-time experiences in application and evaluation of lubricants and oil analyses the speaker will give many practically oriented tips for the handling and selection of lubricants and demonstrates the capabilities of modern oil analysis strategies. Examples from the daily routine and special questions of the attendees will be discussed.

Damages on lubricated machine elements

Speaker:
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Wilfried J. Bartz,
T+S Tribologie und Schmierungstechnik, Germany

Language:

Summary:
The permanent growth of mechanization and automation leads to a steady increase of requirements for the availability and the safety of all machines and assets. The lubricant is only one of the possible reasons for damage. Only who reveals the real cause of the damage of bearings or gears can avoid a repetition of the same failure.

  • What is the real reason for the damage?
  • How to analyze damages?
  • How can damages be avoided?

The speaker, Prof. Dr. Wilfried J. Bartz presents examples from his practical work and provides answers to these
questions.
